Greetings Community,

February has come and gone, the wintry weather is nearly behind us, and spring is in the air! Team members of WV #153 and WV #154 have been working diligently in preparation for the excitement of the upcoming weekends. Will you be part of the anticipation?

We can all assist the weekends in several ways, even though we may not be on the team directly. Did you know you have opportunities to serve the weekends behind the scenes?

First and foremost, through prayer. Prayer is the foundation of every weekend. The prayer vigils for WV #153 and WV #154 are on our website,, and we are looking to have them filled before the weekends start. Please consider signing up to cover the team and pilgrims in prayer.

Secondly, we need pilgrims for both men’s and women’s walks. If you have someone in mind, take some time to take them out for a cup of coffee or even lunch and discuss the possibility of their attending, and do not forget to take their spouse/significant other out to fill them in as well.

Currently, the men have six confirmed pilgrims but need more applications, and the women have five confirmed and five more to say yes to the applications we have so far. Please do not wait until the last minute to send them in; as you know, it sometimes takes time to get those letters. Pilgrim applications can be found on the website under Resources; please be sure to send Pilgrim Application – Part A and Sponsor Application – Part B with the fee to West Virginia Emmaus, PO Box 460, Kearneysville, WV 25430; you can also scan the application before mailing them, making sure to email both pilgrim and sponsor forms to   Sadly, the men’s $25 discount deadline has passed, but there is still time to get in on the women’s pilgrim apps discount. If you mail in the application, Part A and Part B, along with the $50 pilgrim deposit and include $130 for the sponsor fee, before the deadline of March 16th, you can save $25 from the standard fee of $205. The deadline to submit the pilgrim applications is March 28th for the men and April 25th for the women.

Remember the agape you received when you were on your weekend? Getting letters and trinkets on the tables from total strangers was amazing and humbling. Agape is always welcome;  and you can prepare it in advance, not just before the weekends. If you provide Agape/Palanca, please have enough for each of the pilgrims so no one goes without. It can be letters to each of the pilgrims or table agape (table 25 count and dining room 40 count). And remember, agape is meant to be anonymous; please just put your first name and weekend number on all Agape. After all, keep in mind the canon…. It’s not about Me!

Another way you can assist is to volunteer your time. Our Board of Directors wants to start committees to assist with different 4th-day activities throughout the year. You can find a listing of our board and roles on our website under the About – Board of Directors. For example, on the mountain, we will need help with setup on Wednesday evening and tear down on Sunday afternoon.  Please contact Wayne Omps (Events Chair at ) for information on how to help in this area. There is also a need for help setting up for the Candlelight Service on Saturday (6:30 at the bottom of the hill), crossing guards,  and setting up/tearing down for Closing on Sunday at the Chapel (before 4:30 when the community arrives). Remember, the more hands, the lighter the work.

Thank you, Dee Barnett, Bobbi Michael,  Michael Stanfield, and Bruce Taggart, for last month’s Assistant Lay Director (ALD) Training; it was a success! Over thirty of our Emmaus members attended. The Training team received several comments and praises on how well the information was put together and presented. Please be sure to watch for additional community training in the near future.

Christ is counting on you!

Thank you all!
